Rethinking the electric vehicle tax policy: prioritizing affordable solutions for environmental impact

Car emissions harm both the environment and human health, and current U.S. EV tax credits mainly benefit high-income households because EVs are expensive. This study evaluates U.S. vehicle emissions policies by analyzing 2022 national vehicle data to compare the fuel economy and greenhouse gas impacts of the current EV tax credit with a proposed policy that incentivizes hybrid vehicle purchases.

The optimization of high-protein duckweed cultivation in eutrophicated water with mutualistic bacteria

The optimization of high-protein duckweed cultivation in eutrophicated water with mutualistic bacteria

he rapid growth of the human population is driving food crises in Thailand and Southeast Asia, while contributing to global food insecurity and a larger carbon footprint. One potential solution is cultivating duckweed (Wolffia globosa) for consumption, as it grows quickly and can provide an alternative protein source. This research explored two methods to optimize duckweed cultivation: using phosphorus- and nitrogen-rich growing media and plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB).

Nanotexturing as a method to reduce dust accumulation on solar panels

Nanotexturing as a method to reduce dust accumulation on solar panels

Dust accumulation on solar panels can reduce electricity output by 20–50%, posing a major challenge for solar energy collection. Instead of altering panel design, we explored a simpler approach by modifying surface energy through nanotexturing, predicting that hydrophobic surfaces would repel both water and dust. This study found that treating glass and silicone surfaces with potassium hydroxide (KOH) for 13 and 10 minutes, respectively, created optimal nanotextures (445 nm for glass, 205 nm for silicone), significantly reducing dirt accumulation and improving solar energy capture.

Here, the authors investigated the effects of an interventional psychology on the study habits of high school students specifically related to the use of electronic distractions such as social media or texting, listening to music, or watching TV. They reported varying degrees of success between the control and intervention groups, suggesting that the methods of habit-breaking for students merits further study.
