Isolation of Microbes From Common Household Surfaces

Microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi live everywhere in the world around us. The authors here demonstrate that these predominantly harmless microbes can be isolated from many household locations that appear "clean." Further, they test the cleaning power of 70% ethanol and suggest that many "clean" surfaces are not in fact "sterile."

Here, recognizing that brain aneurysms pose a severe threat, often misdiagnosed and leading to high mortality, particularly in younger individuals, the authors explored a novel computer-aided engineering approach. They used magnetic resonance angiography images and computational fluid dynamics, to improve aneurysm detection and risk assessment, aiming for more personalized treatment.

What is the optimal fuel for space flight? Efficiency, cost, and environmental impact

Here, the authors sought to investigate the efficiency, cost, and environmental impact of several possible propellants that are or could be used for space flight. By deriving three novel equations, they identified harm, energy, and cost scores for each fuel, suggesting that considering each factor will be essential to the ongoing growth of the space industry.

Locating sources of a high energy cosmic ray extensive air shower using HiSPARC data

Using the data provided by the University of Twente High School Project on Astrophysics Research with Cosmics (HiSPARC), an analysis of locations for possible high-energy cosmic ray air showers was conducted. An example includes an analysis conducted of the high-energy rain shower recorded in January 2014 and the use of Stellarium™ to discern its location.
